Venture Outdoors Trip Leaders: The Role of a Trip Leader

As a Trip Leader with Venture Outdoors, you are responsible for the full guest experience—from safety and logistics to leadership, storytelling, and connection. This role requires sound judgment, clear communication, and a proactive, service-oriented mindset to ensure every trip runs smoothly and guests leave feeling cared for, inspired, and eager to return.

Role Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Ensure guest safety through clear briefings, sound judgment, and calm leadership

  • Lead guided kayak tours confidently in a variety of environments and conditions

  • Deliver an outstanding guest experience before, during, and after each tour

  • Provide basic kayak instruction, paddling techniques, and on-water guidance

  • Interpret the natural environment using engaging storytelling and education

  • Responsible for kayaking operations, including loading, unloading, setting up and breaking down equipment, and cleaning and maintaining equipment

  • Assist guests pre- and post-tour with questions, directions, and feedback requests

  • Communicate clearly with staff, reporting issues, incidents, or concerns promptly

  • Maintain a BLS/CPR certification (course fee provided to qualified candidates)

  • Complete American Canoe Association (ACA) Trip Leader training (course fee provided to qualified candidates)
